Creative Ideas for Costume Parties
Coming up with creative concepts for your next costume party is always the challenging part. As the organizer, your goal is to think of an idea that will be interesting for all the participants.
Choose a Party Theme
The preparation begins as you choose an appropriate theme. What’s great about holding this type of party is that you can be as crazy and as imaginative as you want. Some of the ideas you can play around with are the following:
1. Go Retro. Select a specific era as a basis for your theme. Let’s say you choose the 70’s or 80s. That means guests will be expected to wear clothing styles that are unique to that period.
2. Couple Costumes. Another idea is to go for couple costumes. This specifically works as a great concept for Valentine parties. Guests could arrive wearing the attire and look of their favorite couples. Possible costumes for this party could range from Adam and Eve, Anthony and Cleopatra, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Mr. Incredible and Mrs. Incredible, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Mad Hatter and Alice, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, and more.
3. Superhero Party. With the recent popularity of big-budgeted Hollywood superhero films, it’s safe to say that everyone is into superheroes once again. What better way to ride the trend than by throwing a superhero party so everyone can arrive wearing their favorite heroes and villains from Marvel or DC roster of characters.
Send the Invites in Advance
Once you’re settled with the party’s theme (as well as its date and venue), the next step is to distribute the invitations ahead of time. You may send invitation cards through snail mail. However, most invites nowadays are sent via the internet. This is most ideal if you are tight on budget or simply want to spread the word quicker. Either way, what’s important is that you inform every guest several weeks before the event. Remember that everyone needs ample time to prepare their costumes.
Prepare Food, Decorations, Activities and Prizes
Finally, you have to prepare everything else to make the party a success. It would actually be fun if you can think of food, decorations, and activities that coincide with your theme. Be sure to have prizes at hand for those who will win the party games. Preferably, you should also give “best in costume” awards for the male and female categories.
