According to a study by researchers at the University of Girona, the Catalan Institute of Oncology and the Biomedical Research Institute of Girona.
The study, which was published in the “Journal of Gerontological Nursing,” examines the effectiveness of a program of individualized work 24 weeks at a rate of two weekly sessions of 90 minutes of physical activity of strength endurance in cancer prostate.
The conclusion is that exercise is “highly effective” in improving the quality of life of patients in the continuum of the disease, according to the ICO.
Improvement occurs both in the physical dimension –with increased strength and endurance and reduced fatigue and pain–; in the functional dimension urinaria– –incontinencia; and emotional dimension.
According to the researchers, physical activity can be compared to the role of a drug to the point of considering a complementary therapy to the pharmacological medical therapy for prostate cancer and for other diseases, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension or heart disease.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, occurring most cases after 50 years.
